How Remote Tuning Works on the Kia Stinger and Genesis 3.3T

Remote tuning allows you to flash a custom tune to your Kia Stinger or Genesis 3.3T from anywhere using an EK1 device—no dyno visit or shop appointment required.

Step 1: Download Your Prep Files

Before you can flash your tune, your ECU needs a Patch File from EK1. Stinger owners also need a Recovery File. (Genesis owners must not flash the Recovery File—it's not compatible and can leave the car unable to start.)

  1. Go to ek1tool.com, create an account, and log in.
  2. Open the EK1 menu in the top-left, then select Online Map Store.
  3. Search for your Calibration ID and download the Patch File.
  4. Stinger only: Search for CKHK3TMS2C7C and download the Recovery File. Skip this step if you drive a Genesis.

⚠️ Important: Files must be flashed in a specific order alongside your tune—see Step 2.

Step 2: Flash in the Correct Order

The files must be flashed in this exact order. Flashing them in any other order may result in your vehicle not starting.

Kia Stinger:

  1. Patch File
  2. Recovery File
  3. Your Tune File (provided by SleepyTuned)

Genesis 3.3T:

  1. Patch File
  2. Your Tune File (provided by SleepyTuned)

For each file:

  1. Put the file in the Maps folder on the EK1 microSD card.
  2. Insert the SD card into the EK1.
  3. Plug the EK1 into your OBD2 port.
  4. Turn on the car's power mode (ignition on, engine off, all dash lights visible).
  5. Navigate to: Power Mode > Writing ECU > Select File
  6. Choose the file and follow the prompts.

The EK1 will confirm when each write is complete. Move on to the next file once the current one finishes.

🔋 Recommended: Use a battery tender while flashing to prevent voltage drops during the write process.

⚠️ Rare Case: If your ECU has a calibration that isn't supported yet, you may need to read it using bench cables and submit the file to the EK1 manufacturer. This usually takes 1–2 business days. You can get the bench harness here.

Step 3: Data Logging & Revisions

Once your base tune is installed, your tuner will guide you on how to collect data logs. Depending on your tools, this may involve:

  • Utilizing your PiggyBack for Logging (JB4, ProTuner, etc.)
  • Logging directly via EK1
  • Or using a laptop-based logger if needed

Follow your tuner's instructions carefully—logging the correct parameters under the right conditions is critical for safe adjustments. Based on your logs, you may receive tune revisions or adjustments for any piggyback devices or external boost controllers in your setup.

Each revised tune file is flashed the same way, using the EK1 and SD card.

Built for Flexibility, Backed by Guidance

Remote tuning with the EK1 gives you the flexibility to flash and revise your tune on your schedule. Whether it's a stock turbo setup or a full-on build, the process is designed to be safe, repeatable, and backed by real support.
